wild life

nature does not happen on our clock.

A little about me

01.

I’m Dani-Elle

Ottawa, Canada: Where I was born and raised and where I remain.

I started my career as a journalist and photojournalist, documenting some of Ottawa's and Canada's most notable moments in history and winning several awards throughout my career.

While journalism was the goal, wildlife photography was my dream -- and today I am doing both.

Relationship with nature

Nature is precious and delicate -- it is not political or for our entertainment.

But we can marvel in it, appreciate it and support it.

We all share this planet, so let's respect it.

This is our home as much the home of every other creature on this Earth.

03.

APPROACH

Capturing life in all its raw beauty -- that's how I would describe my approach to my photography.

But I also use my photography as an opportunity to learn. Not only do I learn something new with every click of my camera, I like to share that knowledge with others.

It's important to let nature unfold without manipulation and that is why I am vehemently against any baiting to capture "the shot." Every one of my photographs is a result of patience and persistence.

Interesting Fact

I've had some amazing wildlife encounters, among them with orcas off the Nanaimo, B.C. coast.

We had several pods of orcas perform while we sat in a small (but dormant) speedboat. Flips and twirls, waves and tail slaps were happening all around us.

The best part? They rocked our boat -- all in good fun, of course -- and being only an arm's length away to check us out.

It was among the most amazing experiences of my life and one I will always cherish.
